I’ve been trying to come up with a poignant post regarding the story of bus monitor Karen Klein being bullied by Greece Athena middle schoolers in Rochester, but I couldn’t think of anything else to say besides my initial reaction of disgust. What happened to her was so unbelievable and inhumane that i couldn’t even bring myself to watch the actual video. But I’d rather not leave you all with that negativity.
What this incident ultimately comes down to is that bullying happens everywhere, not just in my hometown. And in the wake of a horrible story, pure goodness can come out of it. The amount support from people across the world is kind of crazy, as the online campaign started for her vacation fund has raised thousands of dollars over the $5,000 initially set. I mean, love really does conquer hate, y’all.
After seeing this article the other day called “21 pictures that will restore your faith in humanity,” I think it’s safe to say we should add this outpouring of generosity to Karen Klein on the list too. There’s too much negativity that already exists in the world that we don’t have control over, so why can’t we change what we can? just. be. kind.
Atta girl.
